Blacktail Rattlesnake ~ Crotalus molossus

Adult body length: 36 - 40 inches

Body length at birth: 9 - 12 inches

Breeding period: July - August

Young per year: 3 - 16 young per year

Typical foods: small mammals, birds, other reptiles

Habitat: forest, rocky areas, praries, pine woodlands, grassy hills

Can be found: from central Texas through western Arizona

Short description: broad headed, triangular head, keeled scales, rattle on tail, vertical pupils

General description:

 The Blacktail Rattlesnake is a highly venomous

snake. Its coloration varies from greenish, yellowish,

tan, greyish, or brown, with black, tan , or brown,

blotches or crossbands on its back. It has a black tail.

The Blacktail Rattle snake isn’t as aggressive as most

rattlesnake, and it seldomly rattles. So it doen’t always

give a warning to an approacher.
