Pine Snake

Pine Snake ~ Pituophis melanoleucus

Adult body length: 48 - 68 inches

Body length at birth: 19 - 20 inches

Typical diet: Gophers, small mammals and birds

The Pine Snake is a non-venomous snake

that is found throughout the southeastern

U.S. and into Mexico. These snake are almost

rare to find for they spend 85% of their time

in gopher borrows. When encountered they

stay in a striking position and will strike if

necessary. These snake can grow to a very large

size and they are known to hiss loudly.
