Young per year: 2 - 32 young per year

Typical foods: Small rodents, small snakes, lizards, and insects

Habitat: pines, hardwoods, swamps and a variety of habitats, but are generally found in dry habitats

Can be found: North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Mississippi, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, Missouri

Short description: venomous,  broad headed,  triangular head, stout,  keeled scales, vertical pupils, small rattle on tail (Can Be Difficult to See)

General description:

The Pygmy Rattlesnake is a highly venomous

snake only growing 1 - 2 foot in length. It has a

very small rattle that can only be heard from

about two feet away. Be very careful when hiking

in the woods. The Pygmy Rattlesnakes normal

never sounds their rattle when approached. They

are known to strike constantly at their provoker

injecting their deadly venom. Pygmy Rattlesnakes

are easily camouflaged with their backgrounds

especially when they are coiled.
