Typical foods: small mammals, lizards and birds

Habitat: deserts, pines, and sandy areas

Can be found: California, Arizona, Utah, and Nevada

Short description: venomous, broad headed, triangular head, stout, keeled scales, vertical pupils, rattle on tail

General description:

The Speckled Rattlesnake is a highly venomous snake.

It is found throughout the west and is normally seen on

spring mornings. When approached the snake will lay

motionless to try and be avoided. It is capable of delivering

enormous amounts of venom in one bite, that can cause

death if not given medical care immediately. This snakes

coloration varies from brown, reddish-brown, yellow, or

grey, with dark colored speckled bands.
