Body length at birth: 9 – 15 inches

Breeding period: July – August

Young per year: 9 – 12 young per year

Typical foods: small mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and birds

Habitat: grasslands, praries, forest, caves, rock edges, and many other areas

Can be found: most of the United States west of Texas and the Dakotas

Short description: venomous snake, broad headed, triangular head, stout, keeled scales, rattle on tail, vertical pupils

General description:

The Western Rattlesnake is a venomous snake.

It coloration is normally light grey or brown, but

can also be a greenish color. It has dark colored

blotches on its back. The juveniles have the same

pattern as the adult but have a yellow tail.
